Description
1. Traded Lucic to Arizona who can buy him out, explanation in the trade below.

2. Ran draft simulator 10 times - avg position 6.1. Draft Adam Boqvist or Quinn Hughes, whichever is available. Likely neither will be NHL ready for next year, but they're on the roster to show that Oilers have them coming.

3. Sign a scoring winger. I went with Evander Kane. Based on the limited interest in him at the trade deadline, I think he will cost a bit less than JVR or Neal, and he's a few years younger too. Playing alongside McDavid or Draisaitl should help him score 30 consistently.

4. Re-signed Nurse. Most projections I've seen have him between $3.9M and $4.5M. I went with $4.1M per over 6 years.

5. Trade RNH and a 2nd for Galchenyuk and a 1st. This gives both McDavid and Draisaitl high end scoring wingers and takes some of the burden off Pulijujarvi and Yamamoto as they develop into NHLers.

For the record, I'm not an Oilers fan. I'm not "being a homer". If you don't like my ideas, then we disagree on player valuations. Feel free to comment.

Arizona is the perfect fit for Lucic because they could buy him out (which would result in an actual $ cost of 733K/year for 10 years, but have a cap hit ranging from $3.2M to $5.7M over the next 5 years, see https://capfriendly.com/buyout_calculator/milan-lucic#results for details). Doing this shouldn't cost Edmonton the top 5 pick they're likely to have in 2018, but probably would still cost a 1st.

    1. Lucic, Milan
    2. 2019 1st round pick (EDM)

    EDM
    1. Galchenyuk, Alex
    2. 2019 1st round pick (MTL)
    Additional Details:
Montreal gets a centre who can play against other teams' top lines and put up some points, which they desperately need. Centres cost more than wingers, so Montreal has to step up with a higher pick to get the deal done.
    MTL
    1. Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan

If chia can find someone to take lucic’s contract god bless him. If he called me about taking on that contract I’d either say no thanks or make him pay thru the roof. But moving lucic’s contract is key to the oilers having success or becoming basement dwellers again. Chia’s screwed another org once again, believe me ik all about it. But overall good mock! ??

Yeah, I'm not sure if he can, but when I looked at the buyout calculator, it immediately made me think Arizona because they would get $22.7M of cap hit for $3.66M of actual dollars over the next 5 years. Seems like a great way to be cheap but still hit the cap floor!

Honestly feel bad for oilers fans. They have so much talent but with some of these contracts they have now are handicapped in making any moves. Russel and Lucic specifically.

Yep, and as soon as Chia signed them you could tell they were horrific. Can't even imagine how good they would look if they'd kept Hall and Eberle too. Just so many brutal mistakes made that will probably cost McDavid a couple of Cups.

From looking at what they needed the hall trade wasn’t a bad move but in value terms def was a steal for the devils and eberle was moved I’m pretty sure because of his contract and strome has the potential to take over RNH spot in a couple years. But if you don’t sign Lucic then eberle would still be there for sure
