Description
Flames need additional scoring depth on the wing, and there isn't a lot of it available in the UFA market, so they'll need to trade. They also have several very good, young defensemen coming up in the system, which makes some Dmen expendable.

TJ Brodie is a very good player, but he and Hamonic have not worked well together, and Brodie has enough value on the trade market to bring in scoring. I moved both he and Michael Stone to make space for Andersson and Valimaki. Ian Cole was also signed for extra depth, and in case Andersson/Valimaki aren't quite ready or struggle to transition to the NHL.

Beagle and Stewart were signed as depth 4th line options to give Dube and Foo a bit more time to develop. It doesn't have to be Beagle and Stewart specifically - the idea was more whoever doesn't get overpaid in the first few days of July and is available a bit later on for cheap.

  1. Dal Colle, Michael
Additional Details:
Dal Colle hasn't been able to figure it out in the NYI organization. He needs a fresh start. Isles need defense badly and Stone could help fill a 4/5 D role.
2.
CGY
  1. Hoffman, Mike
Additional Details:
A straight 1 for 1 deal for two guys who have consistently been very good, but have struggled this year. Ottawa adds mobility and a guy who can instantly improve their top 4. Calgary adds desperately needed scoring depth on the wing.

Hoffman is more valuable than Brodie, OTT should get more in return

I believe CGY would say yes to this deal, or should.

Really like the Ian Cole depth signing, assuming he's available at that price (and not more).

Jankowski will sign a 2-year, $1.95M contract that matches what Bennett signed out of ELC. Certainly won't be $1M, but that's OK with the cap space you're showing.

Don't see CGY buying out Brouwer, unfortunately. Might as well pay a bit (ie. retain salary) to trade him for a lottery ticket pick. NJ or ARI are potential partners there.

Yeah, I figured Janko would be a bit more but there's lots of cap space to work with.

I did consider trading Brouwer away instead, but I don't know that anyone would take him without having to send a pick with him, so I prefer a buyout than giving up a pick and retaining.

Wingers are not more valuable than top 4 D, plenty of examples to show that throughout the league.
