while JVR would get close to that on an open market... do you think the leafs have the financial space to pay him 7 million with matthews and Marner needing new contracts next season, and Gardiner potentially being resigned. doesn't make sense. as good as JVR is at scoring goals, I wouldn't pay him more than 6.5 on an open market. 7 million is ALOT of money for a guy whose only hit the 30 goal mark twice in his career (though very close for a couple of seasons). leafs would be better off putting that 7 million towards Carlsson. also, Bozak would prefer a longer term deal, cap hit could work if he takes a home discount but he'd want more term
