Description
Idea for a three-way deal. Ottawa moves up one spot and gets Michael Stone for a 3rd round pick, allowing them to get Zadina. Montreal gets a top-4 dman, and Sam Bennett who still has lots of potential. Calgary gets the other Tkachuk, and can have them both on a line with John Tavares. They have lots of cap space so they could even sign a good scoring winger like JVR or a top Dman like Carlson.

Solely focusing on your signings here and not your 3-team deal, and I blame your mayor and municipal government 100% for this, but Calgary will not be able to lure any key UFA to this team as long as they continue playing in the Saddledome. The fact that they had a pretty rough season doesn't help them either.

Politics is politics, and hockey is hockey. Flames aren't going anywhere and an arena deal will get done. Calgary has the young core to be good for a while, and a signing like Tavares would push them over the top. don't forget he played with Hamonic for a long time, who could really sell the city to him. Wouldn't be surprised even if Treliving was thinking about that when he made the deal for him.

The saddledome shouldn’t have anything to do with players refusing to sign in CGY...the end of the day they get their pay check. Besides, a deal is about to get done sooner rather than later.

What?! Do you not remember what things were like in Edmonton before their new arena was built - very much the same thing. The argument "the end of the day they get their pay check" is total bogus. Should JT become a UFA, he will be getting similar term (max) and similar money (around $11 million AAV) from most if not every team in the league, so how does he differentiate? It's obviously not even close to all being about the money. It is about the market, it is about the team he chooses to sign with being competitive and being able to sustain that competitiveness, the local situation, which very much includes the arena situation. JT will not be signing with Calgary, there is really no discussion here.

Edmonton and Calgary are two totally different cities, Edmonton doesn’t attract players even with their brand new arena, if they happen to attract UFA’s its because of mcdavid, not their arena. Obviously he will be after top dollar but I would think having a brand new arena to play in will not be the deciding factor. Top $$ and a competitive team and a good surrounding cast to play with will be. An arena will be built within 3-4 years anyways. A year after the NYI will move into their new building...
