Description
Realistic? Hopeful? Could this team make the playoffs? Let me know your thoughts.

I envision us trading one of the three C/W RFAs, and I hope it's Namestnikov. I don't see how any return we get from him benefits the team this year, though, as I hope the Rangers trade his rights for a pick or two in order to continue building the prospect pool.

I also ignored the trading Zucc at the draft possibility. If we did this though, again I hope it's for a pick and a prospect, or a bottom 4 d-man on the cheap, allowing us to pick up Rick Nash for a lovely 2 years $4mil AAV.

Lastly I didn't include whomever I think NYR would pick at #9 in the draft, as I don't see how any of them contribute to the team this year, nor do I deem it necessary to sign them to a 3 year ELC to play with Hartford. But oh boy do I hope it's Hughes or Boqvist.

Certainly could get close to playoffs but I don't think the defense is good enough.

My favorite thing about NYR's structure is their young depth on offense. I think they'll be great for the team in a few years.

Agreed on the young o-depth. With AV gone, I hope that these young kids, DeAngelo included, will have a little longer of a leash around their neck and much more room to grow. Buch could score 35+ if that top line clicks as we saw it click here and there this year (assuming Kreids and Zib can stay healthy for a full 82 games, which is a huge assumption). For a team that just tore it all down, I'm feeling pretty good about the short and long term health of the squad, assuming Gorton hires the right guy to steer the ship.
