I like David Savard, but have no real interest in Ryan Murray. There are better defencemen out there whom could be acquired for a similar package you've suggested. To break it down, I think that Connor Brown could be traded 1-for-1 to acquire Colin Miller for Vegas. I think Jake Gardiner could net the Leafs a 1st rounder in 2018 and a top prospect, at least. So, those 2 players on our own bring more value, individually, then I think they would as a package, unless the package is going to Philly. I'd be highly interested in acquiring Wayne Simmonds, if he comes with an extension, and one of Travis Sanheim or Phillipe Myers, but I am not sure Philly and the Leafs are interested in doing business together.

thats a good idea. I would do a Brown for Miller swap but I'm not sure why Vegas would want to mess with their d core. As for Gardiner I'm sure his value could net us a first but I wonder why we would want to acquire a first unless it is to flip it for a player we can use next season, as we are a team looking to win. I wouldn't trade Gardiner for just future assets IMO

This is only my gut talking, but I think that Vegas will be heavy players for both or either John Carlson/John Tavares. Those are heavy deals both in dollar and term figures. Carlson plays the right side and would basically leap frog Miller in their top-4 on the right side. This wouldn't be much of an issue if Miller was on his previous deal, but he is an RFA and I am not sure that how much it will take to resign him and Shea Theodore. Of the 2 I just mentioned, I think Colin Miller is far more obtainable. Any value gained on such a deal for Gardiner would probably be used to either (a) move up in this draft to acquire a more elite prospect or, as you mentioned, flip that value into a deal to acquire a player, ideally a defenceman, of course.

if Vegas can get Carlson or somehow trade for Karlsson from Ottawa the odds of a Miller trade go up a lot but without an improved guy on the right for vegas over Miller i Doubt they move him

Even without a better top flight defenceman, signing Tavares and their need to resign some very key UFAs (Neal, Perron, etc.) and RFAs (their own Karlsson, Miller, etc.), maybe there is a deal out there that would work for both teams. I could see a situation where the Leafs take on Tatat's contract (in part to replace JVR), but send Martin the other way as part of any larger deal.
