penguins say no. he scored 92 points last year and has won 2 cups with pittsburg on a fantastic cap hit for what he is delivering. if you want phil kessel to keep or to eventually flip, pens are going to ask for your 1st rounder this year.

Why do the Coyotes even do this? Why flip him? These trades make no sense.

Vessel's value is less than last time he was traded as he's on the wrong side of 30. As a Coyotes fan, I would never trade the 5OA for Kessel. Look at what he got last time he was traded..WHEN HE WAS IN HIS PRIME.
Kessel + some cap dumps + C/D prospects + 2nd for Kasperi Kapanen (a B level prospect) + Scott Harrington (a D prospect on the down turn) + Nick Spaling (basically a contract dump) + late first + third

the only cap dump is hunwick which they could just eat almost half of his cap in the minors. just because arizona takes hunwick doesn't do anything negatively for kessel in my opinion. it doesn't matter if he is going to be 31 next year or not. he is signed for 4 more years at a great cap hit and just got done scoring 92 points this year. if arizona doesn't want that kind of player, then thats fine. other teams who are actually trying to win something will go for him instead.

Arizona won't trade their 5th overall. Kessel won't waive his NTC to play in Arizona. Penguins don't need prospects. Coyotes are trading Max Domi for Andersson, Bennett, and Dube while keeping draft picks and keeping enough salary to stay at the Cap Floor.
