Description
People actually want us to trade a great player to pick Brady Tkachuk? I swear unless we're picking in the 10-15th range, choosing Tkachuk should get the entire staff fired. This is the only scenario I'm okay with picking Brady Tkachuk, if we get a top 5 pick and we pick Tkachuk, I'm done with the Flames.

Because he barely produced despite being one of the oldest players in league draft history. He doesn't have that size or grit that his brother or father has (And believe me Matthew Tkachuk is more a pest rather than actual gritty player). Sure he might have good IQ and skill and speed, but it's not that impressive. He's not a good player and he's ANOTHER LHS that the Flames don't need. If the Flames trade for a 5th overall like one poster made, they better pick one of Hughes, Wahlstrom, or Smith or else I'm done.

I think both tkachuks could have used the path there dad took and came into the league at 20 instead of 18 or 19 and fully grown with the man strength instead of learning on the fly I don’t think it will stunt them as players but there true numbers are going to be after there entry level deals are done

I quite like these deals to use Brodie + Lazar + 4th for Bjugstad + mid 1st 2018. Bjugstad could be an unreal fit on that top line.

I disagree with your take on the Tkachuk brother. I firmly believe having both on CGY would be a new X factor that hasn't been seen before. Matthew just needs to follow the Marchand track, and has the skill/potential if he gets away from suspensions. Let Brady marinate in the NCAA for a few years, work on his head game and size in the meantime, and come into the league eyes wide open, better prepared.

You see if we're going to let Tkachuk marinate in the NCAA, then picking him with a top 5 pick would be even more stupid. If there is one player the Flames need from that draft other than Dahlin is Oliver Wahlstrom. I'd take Wahlstrom on the Flames over both Svechnikov and Zadina not kidding even though I realize those 2 are better overall, Wahlstrom just fits a need far more. I don't care about the family factor, it's not as important as people make it to be. Of course every individual is different.
