Description
Flames trade from a position of strength (Their D) to strengthen their Top 6. They take on more salary as part of the payment, and lose some decent pieces, but overall they improve and make room on the backend for Rasmus / Valmaki to make a push.

For the Buffalo trade, I added Scandella, but Bagosian could replace him depending on what Buffalo wanted to do.

On the 2nd line, RoR and Jankowski are interchagable between RW and C. Bennett playing with Backs is a good move I think, as it will help him get his confidence back. Him and Jankowski could flip on lines 2-3 as the season moves along depending on how they are playing.

Flames D is definitely weaker, but the hope is that Kulak continues to take steps forward and Rasmus lives up to hype and the flashes he has shown. Signing someone like Thomas Hickey could also sure up the D a bit, but I want to leave a spot for the Rookies to compete for.

1.
CGY
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan
  2. Scandella, Marco

Big money savings for Buffalo, while upgrading their D. Ferland is no OReilly, but he can play top line minutes. Probably best as a 4-9 forward.

  1. Brodie, TJ
  2. Ferland, Micheal
Additional Details:
Flames upgrade their top 6 and get a 3rd pairing d. They take on salary as part of the payment for OReilly.
2.
CGY
  1. Hoffman, Mike
Additional Details:
Ottawa unloads Hoffman, though his value has dropped after the issues around his GF. Ottawa drops salary.
OTT
  1. Hathaway, Garnet
  2. Stone, Michael
Additional Details:
Stone brothers are reunited and Ottawa gets a 4-7 defender and a bottom 6 forward with energy and lots of heart.

i think you need to add value to get back the players you're looking for, Brodie and Ferland may not even be enough to get ROR.
I highly doubt Hoffman is going to be given away for a bottom pair defender and a 13th forward.

Brodie & Ferland is overpayment for ROR, hence the added player. Let’s see 2C for 2/3D & 1RW? Hoffman may not get even that if he is involved, the situation is in flux.

O'Reilly produces and plays solid defence while having a terrible supporting cast.
Brodie showed last year what happens when he's not paired with Giordano. He and Hamoniv were not very good at all together.
Ferland was someone for Gaudreau to bounce a puck of off into the net, a 3rd line winger on an average team, 4th line on a deep team.

Hopefully you are getting a bunch of comic relief from your comments, cause they sure are funny. Ferland actually has a great shot, is fast and physical. Brodie had an off year, offensively but still plays over 21 minutes a night against top competition. People act like ROR is the second coming of Malkin, or something. He isn’t. He led the NHL in faceoff %, which is terrific, but otherwise he’s a very good, but not great C. He also tends to over-value his own worth and gets into fights with management. Finally, his comments this past Spring was a plea to be traded. I would like him, but not at any cost.

I understand you're a Flames fan.
I have nothing against Brodie. I actually like him, as he grew up not too far away from me and I've spent some time with him.
His corsi stats last year were not great. He's -32 over the last two seasons. So it seems he's having a hard time against that top competition.
The flames have one won 5 playoff games since Brodie has been a flame. If he's supposed to be one of their best, and the team isn't consistently making it into the playoffs or winning playoffs series then to me this says he may be an average defender that paired very well with an elite defender.
