Flyers Fans What Do You Think
I like Provorov a lot, but I doubt that they should give more than a 2 or three year deal.
Can't get burned on salary yet again, as already they've overpaid on JVR, Hayes, and looks like the last few years of Voracek's contract could end up as a bit of scary situation.
He'll never be as bad as AMac, but I'd be very careful with a long term commitment after such a contrasting season.
Luke Schenn seemed to have a lot of promise in his first few years.
By no way are they the same type of player, but the Flyers D have been terrible since Provorov has come in to the league. Was he the default no. 1, but really a 3 or 4?
It will be interesting to see what impact the couple vets with big game experience provide for the young guys.

Ghost to EDM
I'm a Flyers fan, and this just wouldn't work. Bouchard could be a top 4 guy. Sadly I think Ghost is a specialist, and a bit of a liability in his own zone. Gagner was terrible in Philly 5 years ago.

Nashville
Not a chance the Oilers give up Poolparty for a third, he's only 21. Most players don't hit the NHL until 21-22. Untapped potential, playing with minor league players deep in a very shallow lineup! All of these trades are very beneficial for the Preds and not giving up much of anything in return. Ottawa couldn't wait to offload Turris.

Good PTO by flyers
Did you see the monster season Stewart had in the EIHL last season? haha... The game has passed by this type of player. Too big, too slow.
The Flyers need some speed and tenacity in their bottom 6. Ideally a guy that can help out on the PK.
They've already attempted to fill that size and toughness role with Gabriel/Andreoff.
A player like Paajarvi or Sheahan would make a lot more sense.

At this point in time it looks like O'Brien was a big reach, and may not make it to the NHL. I agree that to move Marner, Konecny would have to be in the deal, but I wouldn't do it if I was the Flyers GM

Moving Voracek and Ghost
I think the Toronto trade is a dream that is far from reality. Kapanen showed he can play anywhere in the lineup. Although Laughton showed he belongs in the NHL, Hagg is a fringe player who couldn't get many minutes playing on a team that let in the third most goals.

Where is the cap space for bonuses, and what happens next year when Lindblom, Patrick and Myers need to be re-signed?

Maybe the trade with the wild works if you add a first round pick, but why would a team that's trying to compete dump assets for futures.
Zacha feels like a bust and Speers last two seasons have been on par with what a B prospect would show.
So a potential bust, a B prospect, a guy who was claimed off waivers and a 3rd round for two guys that are in their prime and a season removed from 57 and 56 point seasons?
Also asking a cash strapped team to retain salary. That deal is really one sided.

EK to Philly? Whats the price?
Calgary already has 5 goalies in their organisation 3 are NHL calibre guys, so I highly doubt they'd take Neuvirth, but I agree on the idea that he should be shopped around.
Sam Morin played 15 games last year, and will miss up until Feb. this year, so I'm not sure he has much of any value at all in a trade at this point in time, but it would be great to bring in another right hand shod defender that can play in the top 6 consistently.
Morgan Frost was one of the most improved players in junior hockey last year. He and Giroux put up the same amount of points as 18-19 year olds in junior. I think at this point in time he and Myers are untouchable players.
MacDonald was an assistant captain last year, I highly doubt he gets bought out, but I understand the feeling of finally wanting to be rid of such an embarassing contract.
Putting together a package that included 2 or three of either Sanheim, Hagg, Rubtsov, Lindblom, Strome, Aube-Kubel, Vorobyov, Allison, Vecchione, or Martel, with a depth player and a pick or two I think would be much better for the organization.
That being said, the Flyers already have two great offensive defensemen. Why not try and find a right hand shot defensive guy, like Tanev, Hamonic, Pysyk, Murphy or Stone?

Buy out Kruger, and ship one of the young productive players with some prospects for a top level talent.
Fill in the rest of the team with bargain vets who still have something to offer in a limited role.

The Panarin trade wouldn't happen without a long term extension.
Panarin is one of the top left wingers in the league. In order to land a top talent, value has to be given in return.
Panarin is a game changer, and can take control of a game, and has a load of chemistry with Kane.
Debrincat is a one dimensional support player. A very good one with two years remaining on an entry level but aside from Schmaltz or Boqvist I don't think there is another player that the Blue Jackets would be interested in receiving to give up Panarin.
Chad Krys probably won't sign with the Hawks anyways with the logjam of defensive prospects.
A one rating is pretty awful. Thank you for that.

Killorn has been a guy that's been given a lot of ice in big games, solid defensively, and has size.
I'd be tempted to see what Gourde could get in return on a trade as one of the young guys with speed and skill or TJ should be able to fill his spot. Tough call though. Depends how salary negotiations go with Gourde.
Probably overpaid Koekkoek.

That would truly help the defense next year as well.</div></div>
The rumour out there on Skinner is a first round pick and a prospect. These picks come pretty near to a first.
Leafs use Skinner as a one season rental, and let him walk when the kids salaries kick in.
Carolina needs a change in net, so why not take a chance on Sparks he was the AHL's best, and Toronto has 6 goalies under contract. If they bury Darling, see if he can regain some confidence. No one is going to pick that salary off waivers.

Having an 18 year old play against other teams' best players, while playing on a bad team could be really bad for development. Keeping a young player sheltered until he proves he can swim is usually how coaches work.
Keeping Guhle in the minors to start the season won't hurt him, will actually probably help his development, as being a dominant player will help his confidence, then you keep the depth in the system. That second round pick isn't guaranteed to be a productive NHL player, and of it does become an NHL player that's likely 4 years away.

Scandella is in the middle of his prime, is a failed offensive dman, and cant play the role Buffalo wanted of him. I'm taking McCabe over Scandella every time.</div></div>
I'm not saying anything about McCabe at all. He's a steady player. Teams need depth as injuries happen. Trading away players that play a lot and coaches use as their top players without getting much in return will keep a team in the basement. The good teams have 10 defenseman that can play at the NHL level. The entire team failed, why blame it on Scandella?

Scandella was put in a position he's not suited for, playing against the other teams top lines. -15 on the worst team, playing against the opponent's best isn't so bad.
If he's playing as a 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2 the team isn't in such rough shape.

Why trade Scandella when he played a load of minutes last year?
The two other trades are heavily in favour of Buffalo.
With the health problems and salary Okposo carries his value would be very low. Koivu alone is worth much more.
The wild have very few right shot forwards, I highly doubt they're going to trade their only right handed offensive threat.

Even then, unless you can convince Panarin he is worth a decent chunk less then Kucherov just got, you need guys like DeBrincat that are productive on ELC to offset how top heavy the Hawks would be with Kane/Toews/Seabs/Saad/Crawford/ Hossa/Keith/Anisimov. Even if you can snooker Panarin into 8 per year (somehow his agent doesn't know income tax in Florida vs Illinois and you convince them he is 12% less of a player than Kucherov??….good luck with that) and do something short term on Schmaltz at 5 per....you'll have 10 guys eating 68+ million of your cap (with one of them retired).</div></div>
The trade would only happen if Panarin signed long term.
Hossa will go on LTIR,
Bowman has shown he will bring in vets on bargain contracts to fill depth. Last year didn't work so well, but it had previously.
Boqvist, Jokiharju, and Beaudin should all see time while on their ELC. The cap will go up between 3.5-5 mil.
So then in 2019 after having Panarin on for 9mil, Schmaltz for 5, the team has their core together and a few depth spots to fill with young players on the back end, and some vets to fill holes in the bottom 6.

Yes Debrincat had 52 points as a rookie, and will probably be a good one dimensional support player, he won't be that guy that takes control of a game. Sam Gagner had 49 points as a rookie and Matt Read had 47.
