Description
Before I possibly get ripped for the trade below, I’ll just clarify that this is not the complete trade, but rather just looking to see if Habs fans would like seeing a Patches for Carter based trade. Likely would be some picks going both ways mainly to compensate for Patches having no new contract and for Carter’s older age.

Imo this deal would be ideal for both teams. Simply put, Habs get a more reliable guy at 1C (whether you’d actually call Carter a 1C or not is up to you) and possible mentor for young guys like Kotkaniemi Evans, etc, and the Kings get a top LW to play with Kopi while also opening up the 2C role for Kempe to slide into.

As a habs fan, I would have love to have Carter, but with all what happemed last year, I think if Patch is traded, ithe return would be mainely picks and prospects. I like the idea but it's a bit late to take a chance with an 33 old center.

I give you a 4 stars for bringning a new unpublished trade with Patche. To make it feasable the Kings has to had up a 1 st round pick. Carter would be helpful to carry a transition at center for Mtl and to remove pressure on the prospects that will come in (Poehling and KOTKANIEMI). And this could help to move Drouin in a more natural spot on the left wing.
It could be a 2nd round and first if Patches sign with LA.

Yeah that crossed my mind while making this. With the Kovy signing and Kempe and Vilardi each making waves last season, it’s eminent that Carter could be out the door here, so I was looking at teams Carter could easily fit with, as well with the rumours Blake already wants Patches.

For Carter and a 1st there would likely have to be some sort of extension coming with Patches, but there’s obviously picks going to MTL in this deal to compensate for Carter’s age.

Dont forget that even with Carters age, he is still (in my opinion) an elite center when healthy. And put either Domi or Druin on his wing and they have a legit first line.

Honestly, great job for bringing something new to the table. Here's my honest opinion.

I absolutely love Jeff Carter, and have his whole career. If he were 3 years younger the whole story would change. He can still play with the best of the NHL and would gladly take him on the team but at 33 with 4 years @ 5.3mil, this becomes a slight cap dump for LA too. I really would welcome having him as part of a deal but he wouldn't' be the main piece.

I know LA won't trade Vilardi so I won't structure a trade with him. But here's what I would want in a trade that doesn't include Vilardi.
