Description

Ottawa saves $6.375M in actual money paid over the course of this contract with this trade. Even if they plan on buying him out after this season they would still save $4.025M.
They get a young defenseman out of the deal too.
Sounds like a win-win for Melnyk.

The Blackhawks can look to trade Anisimov in the future if Smith is playing good as their 3C.
