Description

Chiasson is a UFA having the best year of his career, plus coming off winning a cup. His offensive stats are exceeding expectations thanks to getting playing time with McDavid and he won't likely score at the same rate anywhere else. But as a depth winger he has proven he can contribute and is an upgrade on Hudon at this point. Oilers flip him for a younger, controllable, and inexpensive asset and their own pick back. If they like Chiasson enough, they can try to re-sign him in offseason.

Montreal isn't making the playoffs. Chiasson wouldn't help us. Only reason he is doing so good is because of the McDavid factor.

They might not, but they are 1 point out, I wouldn't make any big moves at this point, but if in the lead up to the TDL a team like the Isles or Blue jackets has fallen back and the Habs are holding down a spot, a small move like this could be useful. I certainly wouldn't trade any top prospect or any pick in the first 3 rounds unless the return was incredible.
