Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters (2018 Trade Deadline)

Created by: FightMeMiaFarrow
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2017
Published: Dec. 19, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
"Like Ares comes the bridegroom, taller far than a tall man."

The Rangers have a lot of work to do this offseason, and their plan of action thereforth will be tied to their extent of movement preceding the 2018 trade deadline. Skjei, Miller, and Hayes all need long-term extensions next summer (Miller and Hayes having outperformed the value of their bridge-deals, and Skjei simply because he is far too valuable not to lock up), and there will be a number of prospects knocking on Gorton's door vying for roster spots (Lettieri, Pionk, DeAngelo, Graves, Andersson, Chytil - at least three of whom should be making the team in some capacity). It should be fairly clear to the Rangers' front office that their best bet is to build the team around their young core through the draft, so Deadline deals should reflect that much.

Great Ideas! Exactly what they should be doing. However, I think you could get more for Grabner and Nash to teams that are trying to win a cup this year and need another player to put them over the edge.

Thanks for the reply. I was considering the most value I could conceive of without making any trade seem too biased, but I imagine the Nash/Grabner deals could theoretically be done without packaging later picks. Getting back Åberg, a young, high-energy bottom-six option would be a nice addition, since he's basically making league minimum and will be an RFA after next season. Having him andNashville's first-rounder would be very good value, but not egregiously one-sided. Austin Wagner is a winger in the mold of Grabner, but obviously is still very young and undeveloped, though he could help replenish Hartford's depth when players on the brink inevitably get called-up.
