  1. Hagelin, Carl
  2. 2018 1st round pick (PIT)
  3. 2018 6th round pick (PIT)
  4. 2019 4th round pick (MIN)
  5. 2019 7th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Reasoning: Cap dump in Hagelin is a huge help. Soderberg is a defensively responsible 3C who can help establish a strong checking line. $ draft picks is a huge cost but it is a necessary price to get a 3C of Soderbergs quality as well as cap dumping Hagelin
PIT
  1. Söderberg, Carl ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Reasoning: 4 draft picks is huge and they can easily afford to keep 2 million retained

As a Pens fan I liked your idea. It's a reasonable price to dump entire Hagelin's salary and acquire Sodeberg. He's not my first option to trade cause of his lack scoring, but maybe it could work for both sides.

What he lacks in scoring he makes up for in his own end, he's constantly put out with Comeau and Nieto in a shut down role and that line has actually been suprisingly good. Pens wont need a guy who can carry the team as they have that in Crosby/Malkin/Kessel.

4 picks is a lot. I think 3 picks is the most GMJR would give for one player. Also, the penguins are lacking scoring in their bottom six. I don’t think they’d trade for a player who really doesn’t score or create offense. I gave 4 stars bc I think the value is there for dumping Hagelin and retaining 50%, but soderberg probably isn’t the answer pens management is looking for. Maybe this deal could open up a bigger one because of the money it frees up for the pens.

Yes. But we're looking for scoring production to our bottom 6. I don't see much improvement between Sodeberg and Sheahan. I think guys like Haula, Brassard and Bozak would be better options because of what they can produces offensively and defensively, at the same time. Haula would be my favorite one, but he's the most difficult of them to acquire, because he's been an important part of Vegas success and he has a good contract for 3 more years.

I see Sodeberg and Letestu as secondary options. Good ones, indeed.
