Description
Which playoff team would Green be able to help out for a cup run?

The Wings need to rebuild at least a little. Rebuilds need draft picks, and good young players to succeed. This years draft has many good players. Seems simple to me. The Wings should be chasing draft picks, and at least aiming to finish in the bottom 7 of the standings.

This should all start with Mike Green, the most valuable, easily tradeable asset the wings could get a return for. The only question now is which teams would actually try to trade for Green. Edmonton is no longer an option since they suck.

I'm thinking that teams like the Kings and Penguins make the most sense. Maybe Leafs, Golden Knights even?, Islanders, Blackhawks. But there's a bunch of fringe teams that probably wouldn't be willing to trade their 1st round pick for a rental, if they aren't guaranteed to make the playoffs. Most of the teams who surely will make the playoffs, in my opinion have no use for Green.
I'm getting worried that the Wings will end up getting nothing for Green, what teams are legitimate trade options?
Here are my best attempts to trade Green:

as a Chicago fan I would love the trade; however, I would make two minor changes: 1. The Wings would have to retain some salary (Hawks would need it to make it work) 2. Hawks pick moved to a 2019 first rounder and a late round 2018 pick. (Chicago already doesn't pick in the 2nd round and I think the management wouldn't want to be without a 1st and 2nd round pick in the same draft year)
I think the value is fair in most trade situations you created. The scary thing is if the cap goes up enough that Green may stay with a contender he is traded too. This year with the projected 5 million increase in cap makes rental players possible long term solutions so it will be an interesting trade deadline as a result.

CM10, after looking at Chicago I definitely agree. Can't see Chicago wanting to give up 2018 1st. Would be no problem for Wings to retain, it's really unfortunate for Chicago they have no players they can send the other way to equal out money, their hands are really tied in terms of making trades. And yeah that's true about Green sticking around, I'm thinking Vegas would be a logical place for him to stick around if he got traded there which is why I put them on the list, but I'm just not sure Green would want to go to Vegas. Chicago would make sense for Green to stick around in considering they seem to be lacking that top RHD at the moment, but even with the cap increase Chicago would likely already be struggling mightily with the cap.
