That is an incredible overpay for Pacioretty. A few good young players, a first, a second, and potentially another second for a guy with 23 points is very extreme. He’s not worth anything more than a first and a decent young player at this point, and even that’s questionable.

Do your homework. Pacioretty is 4th or 5th in goal scoring over the past 5 years? Half a season doesn't ruin his value. Everyone knows he will break out once he has a defenseman that can get him the puck.

History alone doesn’t justify a trade. Just because a player has been good in the past (and to his credit, Pacioretty has been very good), that does not even in the slightest justify throwing a kings ransom at that player. Tierney is a young player that is doing pretty well this year. O’Regan is one of the Sharks’ top prospects. Then we’re throwing in a first, a second, and potentially another second? That’s a very poor evaluation, even if you’re banking on Pacioretty to find his old self, which is just not a risk any rational NHL GM would take, especially for that package.

I would sooner judge Pacioretty's last 5 years than his previous 4 months to judge his value. I understand you disagree, but I know Bergevin doesn't. So it would take an "overpayment" to get this done. None of those pieces are even what we are targeting in a return. so its not happening from Montreal's perspective.

just want to precise to Linehan10 that its NOT 2 2nd round pick.. the 2nd round 2020 is conditionnal it's only A 1st, Tierney O'Regan and if pacioretty re-sign there it was a 2nd in 2020. i dont see it at an overpayment im not even sure it would appeal our gm but didnt want to look to greedy. And Shaffer Pens Without Hagelin next year it give you 4M more to spend elsewhere and i had carr to the equation.. Dea is not an NHler he's not even a top AHL guy Carr can become a top 9 maybe even more in Pittsburgh ... and he's cheap. so to not having Hagelin 4M caps this n next year, having another spot free without Dea, Getting deeper in the middler and stronger in term of defensively and maybe even offensively because what you had in middle.. and getting carr in the equation who i think could thrive in Pit playing LW or RW anywhere in line up for a 1st ands a 5th i didnt think it was too much.. except if the fact is the player and not the price pay for it. IF you keep Hagelin dea and we dont add Carr, prob a 2nd + another picks would have been my call.. but cap salarial wouldnt have fitt for youyr team.
