What I'm trying to do is use what we have: cap space. Dubois is going to cost something to acquire. He's going to cost assets (a good player, a rental, a draft pick), but that likely isn't enough. Maybe CLB could be interested in us "buying" Dubois by helping them with cap management. A 3rd pairing d-man with some experience at a 1.5 M$ cap hit to replace Johnson should interest them. A veteran center with faceoff prowess for a 3M$ cap hit should interest them. A young player who has already scored 30 goals in a season at a 3.9M$ cap hit for this season and 2 more years should interest them. An early pick in the 2nd round of this season's draft should interest them. Taking Jack Johnson's 4.357M$ cap hit off their books as they prep for a playoff run should interest them.

As for the Alzner deal, I put the Leafs in there because I hate them... ;) Maybe another team would bite on Karl Alzner at a 3M$ cap hit instead of his 4.625$ hit. I'm aware he has a NTC and this could be real tricky in trying to move that deal.

In the end we still have a high end draft pick in the first round that might step right into our lineup next season, and alot of cap space to make a run at some of the best UFA's next summer.
