Deadline Fire Sale

Created by: Richie59C
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 27, 2018
Published: Jan. 27, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the Rangers are committed to be rebuilding, everything must go.
Trades
1.
NYR
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. Nylander, William
  3. 2018 1st round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. McDonagh, Ryan ($2,350,000 retained)
Additional Details:
A number one d-man under team control for next two playoff runs making less than $2.5M should bring back an absolute haul.
2.
NYR
  1. Honka, Julius
  2. 2018 1st round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Nash, Rick ($3,900,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Rick Nash has evolved into more of two way forward these days. He will help a teams PK and has really come on as of late. Throw him on a line with Tyler Seguin and we might see some really good things we didn’t see with NYR.
3.
NYR
  1. Dano, Marko
  2. 2018 2nd round pick (WPG)
  3. 2019 1st round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Grabner, Michael
Additional Details:
The Winnipeg PK has been absolutely abysmal. Michael Grabner could really help that. The Rangers really got their bang for buck on the Michael Grabner contract. He had 27 goals last year and currently has 21 this year. There is a tremendous amount of value here with the PK ability and the goal scoring. There will be no shortage of suitors at the deadline - and teams will not hesitate to give up a first for McDonagh. A nice comparable is the Eaves to ANA trade. DAL eventually got a first back in return after the conditions were met. Eaves had a great season last year. Grabner had a great season last year and is replicating that performance this season. Grabner will bring back more than Eaves.
4.
NYR
  1. 2018 1st round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Dante Fabbro
NSH
  1. Zuccarello, Mats
Additional Details:
Filip Forsberg is going to miss a significant amount of time, and Mats Zuccarello would fit perfect where Forsberg was on the line with Johansen and Arvidsson. When Forsberg is back, they can reshuffle the lines and get rid of that horrible third line with Bonino, Hartnell and Sissons. When healthy, Nashville is a dangerous team and a cup contender, adding Zuccarello would only solidify their status as that.
5.
NYR
  1. 2018 4th round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. Desharnais, David
Additional Details:
Will not hurt for the Sharks to add some scoring depth after the loss of Jumbo.
6.
NYR
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Holden, Nick
Additional Details:
Teams need to bulk up in the blue line at the deadline. Nick Holden is a better option than Jay Bouwmeester.

Too much for everyone, except Zuccarello. McDonagh is not a good fit on the Leafs.

Teams will overpay at the deadline. There are many comparables over the past deadlines to these trades.

Teams will overpay, but not by THAT much. You might get a first for Nash, but not a first and a top prospect. Same for Grabner.

Plus, this is quickly becoming a sellers market and if the supply is so high and the alternatives that many, prices are tonna fall

Honka cannot stay in the NHL, needs a change of scenery.

Marko Dano can’t stay on an NHL team without being traded at the deadline.

You are very much overvaluing the “top” prospects who aren’t really top prospects and undervaluing the Rangers assets.

Judging by the past few deadlines - there are always those two or three teams who can’t get who they want and grossly overpay for somebody else (Hanzal, E. Staal, Brendan Smith)

But I will not infringe upon your opinion as you have yours and I have mine.

I think most of these are pretty reasonable value wise. I do not think the leafs are going to part with nylander, however i think that they have a lot of other assets they may part with. IMO they would be more willing to part with marner than nylander...I think a package like Marner + Liligren + 1st for Mcd 50% retained + 2nd might work out.
