I love the idea of sliding Bowey to the press box for the post-season. But not 100% Mike Green is the guy...he would cost a LOT and bring little (and zero long-term possibility) UNLESS they plan to cheap re-sign Green for a year or two and trade Carlson...
If that's their plan, they'd better get cracking before the deadline, to have enough time for a serious bidding war on Carlson, which should bring back a higher first and slightly better prospects,but... then you've got Green instead of Carlson, and you still need to trade for a veteran bottom pairing defenseman or two before the playoffs.

Honestly I think he would be solid
Do you respond to all criticism just by restating your original position, or saying your mind is unchanged? Philosophers believe that the point of a conversation is to share information, learn from each other, and arrive together at a deeper truth.
Go back and watch Mike Green trying to cover Sidney Crosby in the playoffs, and then look at the numbers of hits and takeaways Green and Carlson come up with, and their power play percentages int heir last two years together with the Caps. Carlson is an upgrade at each end of the rink. Now, maybe he's not willing to re-sign, in that case, if Green is willing to stick around long term at 5M, sure, bring him back, but don't go overpaying. The odds are pretty slim that he suddenly breaks out for another twenty or thirty goal season. It's been a long time since he did. At this point he's a power play specialist and a fourth forward. He might have speed to catch up with breakaways, but when he gets there, he doesn't try to engage opponents physically like most of the Caps' defensemen do. He wouldn't fit the style that Trotz coaches, and he'd probably be just as unhappy as he was under Hunter, when he up and left.
Pass, especially at the cost of a 1st round pick.
