I never knew that Lucic got paid $13,000,000 because that is how much you would still have to free up if you got rid of Lucic with no money retained or coming back.

If Lucic is traded it leaves 20+mil to resign Nurse and 8 to 9 players. Yamamoto is making the team next year.

If this trade did happen where the Oilers got no salary back or retained any salary for Lucic, the Oilers would have 13 players under contract with $64,000,000 already spent on these 13 players.

If the cap goes up to $80,000,000 next season, the Oilers would have $16,000,000 to fill out their roster and that is to sign/find 10 players. Most importantly, two top 6 LW, and a bottom 6 LW. Two bottom 6 centres a bottom 6 RW and a defenseman.

It just won't work.

This isn't even taking in Russell getting traded.

If Oilers do things right, they will get young assets from the Maroon, Letestu and Cammalleri trade that might insert in the lineup next year. Yamamoto and Carr are added to the team. How much do you think Nurse will sign for? I doubt its over 5mil. Oilers should have 15 mil to sign 10 players if Lucic gets traded.

I have included a cap hit of $4,500,000 for Nurse.

Maroon with get a 2nd round pick, which will be the bottom half of the round since he would go to a contender. As for Letestu a and Camalleri would get 4th round picks, 3rd at best.

I can't see any prospect if obtained by trading the 3 mentioned playing with the Oilers next season.

So we have Carr and Yamaoto (even though he will be in the AHL), but I will insert him, that is $1,700,000 So now the Oilers have $14,900,000 for 8 players.

Say we sign Strome at $3,000,000 per season, now we are 11,900,000 for 7 players.

We still Don't have a 1st or 2nd line LW, so to sign those, there is $9,000,000 that is being on the light side. For example, JVR at $5,000,000 and Grabner at $4,000,000.

Now the Oilers are at $2,900,000 for 5 players. That Doesn't include an everyday defenseman ($1,500,000) or 3 players for the press box (2 forwards and 1 defense) and a bottom 6 RW.
