next year 2018-2019

Created by: Habs4ever
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2018
Published: Feb. 25, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As always there are a lot of if's. If MTL signs Kovalchuk. If ARI gets lottery pick and agrees to move those rights for Patch and Lehkonen for Dahlin. Nielsen and Lewington is an upgrade in hard nose hitting and PK for 3rd pairing. It places MTL with good picks (minus the 2019 1st round pick that is supposed to be a 2018 pick) and also gives them plenty of cap room to allow this young talented team to grow together.

I agree. I actualy like Byron. I had no idea where to put him. He is not a C and not really a RW. He is not a 1st line LW. He is ideally a 3rd line LW but I just felt Hudon will have a long sustained upside. But I agree with you, He works hard and is a good team player.

This line-up will be great in 2-3 years!
That's mean we won't make the playoff for at least 1-2 more years.

Completely agree. That means one more year of good draft picks and then by year 2 or 3, this team should take off and be good for next 5 yrs. The Weber contract is not so bad as the last 4 yrs he is only owed $1 M per year. It was a very front loaded contract. Can Price play well for next 3 to 7 yrs? who knows but one would hope. The thing that really bugs me, is the fact I knew last October this defense was not good enough and they would be weak at C. If I knew this, how come Bergevin did not? boggles the mind.

I would not use the word tanking. Obviously Dahlin is going to be a very good player but should Arizona land the lottery, I would make a very valiant effort to try and get him. Both Patch and Lehkonen are good players and still many years left in the tank.

I hate to disappoint you but Pacioretty and Lehkonen ain't gonna get you the 1st overall pick in 2018

Patch will fetch a 1st round pick, Lehkonen only adds to it. In this scenario, if ARI has pick and they initially say no to this offer, I counter and add to it with another player or some of MTL plethora of 2nd round picks or even MTL's 1st round pick, which will be high in top five in 2018. So I would try to land Dahlin. Who knows, maybe MTL wins lottery!
