Description
Here is what I hope Ottawa does after draft day.

Keeping Karlsson: After "fielding calls" on Karlsson, Dorion decides to keep his generational player by extending him to an 8 year, 11.5 million dollar contract. Keeping a Senator and building around him, if you could do that.

Keeping Duchene: For what you gave up for him, not extending him would be a huge mistake. Extending Duchene to an 8 year, 8 million dollar contract.

Stone and Ceci: Resigning these guys grant stability on the ice and leadership in the locker room.

Additional Details:

Additional Details:
Need to take some bad contracts. In order to not retain salary, Ottawa would have to send prospects and high picks to compensate Saving Ottawa in the long run and giving Philadelphia some flexibility with their roster. Hogberg's role is now redundant now that Gustavsson is #1 in the AHL. Paul's time is up in Ottawa and a change of scenery is much needed. Still has a high potential ceiling.

Additional Details:
Taking on bad expiring contracts by sending picks and prospects, this gives Ottawa the opportunity to sign Karlsson long term for lots of money. High price to pay but, Ottawa has some decent prospects in the pipeline that can step up in the future.

I really like what you did here! I like the numbers, and the path going forward. The Burrows deal is creative, another possible scenario might be, if he is sent to the minors for the rest of this year, perhaps next season he is convinced to retire in exchange for a job in the organization (not sure of cap hit in such a situation). Everyone talks about how thin the organization is, so perhaps it is easier to convince Melnick to hire him as a scout or something if he ahs to pay him anyway.
With both Ryan and Goborik, another likely scenario is play out next season, hoping to get 80 man games out of the two combined, and then if Ryan has a decent year, we hopefully can deal the final three years of his contract, with around 1.25 million retained, and Gaborik bought out of the final 2 years of his deal when his salary drops and the cost is a little north of 4 million.
I like the Smith deal too, but I also think there will be options through free agency for a vertern Dman, if need be. These remaining games will be interesting to see if Harpur or Claesson can play as regular NHL Dmen. Good job on your team!
