No problem, his payroll was under $76M anyway.
The issue is longer term 2019 roster...Foligno would need to go too if Jackets wanted to re-sign Bob, Panarin & Wennberg the following year.
I'm not sure the answer is Tavares. Dubois will be very solid in another year, and either obtaining a #2C or additional Wennberg development could solidify the center of the lineup.

I would argue Tavares would have Columbus as one of his top choices. Considering the fact the the prospect pipeline is very good and the Jackets have a very good and young core, he would also have a elite winger like Panarin to play with.

As far as the cap goes, it has been widely stated 80 mil is. It out of the question.
