Description

This is scenario where JT and JC land in NJ.

If BUF doesnt win lottery (will land Svechnikov) NJ will gladly trade Severson to BUF, so they would get 2RHD to play behind RR. And McCabe would play alongside Carlson.

Johansson traded to Chicago for Saad. This would give NJ defensive winger with great PK skills, who will help Hischier in defensive side of game. And it would also give Hawks some cap room and flexibility due to the term of Johansson's contract. He could be signed for about 5mil. after. Pointwise, the scoring would be roughly the same.

Lovejoy would be extremely good pickup by Leafs. His 2.67 mil in his last year of contract would not hurt the cap space. As a Leafs fan I would like to see him in our uniform. The defence after picking up Lovejoy:

But what if Buf doesnt pick Svechnikov? And no, Saad’s worth more than Johansson

A few critiques:
1) we get hosed on the Severson trade. Severson has a much higher ceiling than McCabe and Moore wouldn't agree to that contract in the sign-and-trade. If we trade Severson for a LHD, it should be for someone we know will improve our defense both now and in the future, and that's not McCabe
2) Saad is worth much more than MoJo because of MoJo's concussion history and shorter contract
3) Carlson will want more than 4 years, and if he takes a 4 year contract, the cap hit will be much higher than 7 Mill

Lastly, I have looked at ways we can sign both JT and JC, and it can't be done without unloading Greene or Zajac's contract
