18/19 Oilers no major trades

Created by: Fleurdelille
Team: 2018-19 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2018
Published: Mar. 5, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These lines aren't winning anything in 18/19, but has a decent look to it down the line

Look how well TBL did last year. We can also bounce back from an injury-infested season.

Players:
* Beagle also can be Filppula or any other reliable 4C, face-off winning, penalty killer. Choose Beagle because he's an Alberta native, even if he is from Calgary

* Puljujarvi could easily be a 20 goal scorer if he had some PP time and weren't playing 10 minutes/night on the 3rd/4th line.

* Yamamoto is pacing better than Draisaitl did the year before his 72 game, 51 point season. Who's to say his speed and skill isn't ready for NHL soon

* Strome is a bit inconsistent but he's filling that 3rd C role nicely

* Lucic, Klefbom, Sekera will bounce back. Adam Larsson will play 82 games. None of the players mentioned might have a Career year but any improvement from this season will be very helpful.

*Need to draft a RHD in Boqvist, Bouchard or Dobson before McD/Drai gets too old. It'll take 1-3 seasons to get good results from any D

I'd like for us to get trade-value out of Benning, Caggiula. Maybe snatch up a player like Alex Nylander?

I like it! I like Khaira as 4C, but if you could sign someone as a really good PKer and good at face-offs that would be better. I would rather trade Kassian and keep Cagguila for 1m. Save 1m in cap and I think Cagguila is more versatile and has a higher ceiling then Kassian. I would also rather keep Benning and have Bear play as the #1 Dman on Bakersfield and get 25min a night and run the 1st power play unit. Hopefully him and Jones will be ready for 2019-20 after Sekera and Russell give their trade lists in summer 2019.

In 2019-20 the D could look like:
Nurse Larsson shutdown pair
Klefbom Bear offensive start pair
Jones Benning

If you trade Benning and select Boqvist you need to hope he develops fast or keep Russell. Might be better to take a LW instead... I would just select the best player available because we are definitely short on the LW, and may or may not be short at RHD depending on Bear's development.
Considering LW, I am also not bullish that Aberg is going to be a good starter on the bottom 6 LW. Theres a reason the preds traded him for essentially a 4th round pick.

Alot of good feedback. I think if we re-sign Cammalleri, or even get someone like Grabner we should not need to count on Aberg panning out. Slepyshev plays RW now but is decent on the left.

Bear really seems like a hit or miss. He is not strong defensively so he needs bring alot of offense. If we get a player like Boqvist it's not unimaginable that he'd put up 40 points by the time he's 21 (thinking Klingberg). I'm hoping Bear reaches his ceiling, seems like he's getting offensive starts + PP opportunities atm so that'll help his game

Yeah right now I am hoping that one of Benning or Bear improve enough to play on a good 2nd pairing on the right side (I know Benning is a LHD but he usually plays on the right side). I think both of them have the potential. Benning has been in a bit of a sophomore slump, but based on his performance in his rookie season, you would think his potential is a #4 defenceman on a good team. I would like to wait on Benning and Bears development before trading picks/prospects for a RHD. But I agree with you, Boqvist is probably an even better bet to becoming a top 4 RHD, so it wouldn't hurt drafting him and then end up trading one of the 3 of them.
