Here's a couple of moves that I would make

1. Hire Joel Qunneville
- Should Chicago decide (wrongly, if I might add) to part ways with Coach Q, I would want him as the next head coach. Coach Stevens has added a layer of offense to the team, but our effort and defensive consistency looks worse than under Coach Sutter, Coach Q would instantly have the respect and ear of the locker room, and the defensive play would definitely improve.

2. Trade with Philly
- Simmonds is an expiring deal, and is probably playing for a new contract. That would work fine, as we clear up some cap room for the 2019 free agent class (Panarin, Seguin, Skinner etc.) as well as the extensions of Doughty, Kempe and Iafallo. On the ice, we get a power play weapon to improve our bottom 10 PP as well as a strong two way presence on the 2nd line. Toffoli gives Philly some cost certainty on their top-6, and a change of scenery might do him some good.

3. Trade with Buffalo
- We get a younger D-man with a team friendly contract, and McCabe still has some upside. In turn, we take on Moulson's final year and give up a vet D-man in A-Mart who could slot in beside Ristolainen and play big minutes.

Should things go well, the team still has $3.8 million in cap space to do something at the trade deadline. However, on the off chance that things go south, this team would have Doughty and Simmonds to trade away for future building blocks.
