I totally agree . The Islanders would never give up Tavares AND Barzal for next to nothing. Also on Calgary's point of view, you've already gave up on one or maybe even two, potential lottery picks, why would you want to give up yet ANOTHER one. Tavares, and Barzal didn't get the Islanders to the playoffs, so what makes you think they would get the Flames to the playoffs. However that is a stunning roster. Oh yah and giving up 3 possible lottery picks in 3 years is never a good thing.

Barzal would be a top 5 pick in any draft, more or less. So it's absolutely fine paying a 1st rounder for him. That trade would be a major win for CGY to pull off, and I don't see NYI moving Barzal. They are likely thinking to build the next version of the team around him after Tavares walks.
