STL - VAN swap

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2018-19 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2018
Published: Apr. 24, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade breakdown: basically,

Tanev (50% retained) + 6th overall pick = Parayko
Goldobin = 27th overall pick

I know Blues fans would be loathe to give up Parayko, but a half-priced Tanev, talented young forward, and another elite (probably Dman) prospect is a very good package that saves enough on the cap for the Blues to make other signings to improve their team.

Van gets a guy that can play in all situations and continue to develop into a true #1 Dman outside of Petro's shadow. I also signed Kane, not because I think the team should, but because Benning will probably try to. Plus there's less LW depth after trading Goldy.

I like it, goldobin is a skilled prospect but canucks are loaded with good prospects that are could make the jump any time now so it wont matter that much if they lose him.

As a Blues fan I like this concept a lot. I know you’ll probably say no, but could the trade be centered around Parayko and Horvat instead? Schenn, Horvat, Thomas would be pretty dang good down the middle.

The problem is Vancouver still has a need for center depth as well. I think the only way Horvat becomes expendable as a trade chip is if Van signs Tavares (unlikely) or Pettersson and Gaudette quickly become a legit 1/2 center combo. But that's going to take some time.

Fair value wise man but I’d rather just keep Tanev and draft Boqvist/Hughes

I figured. You never want to bet on rookies who have never set foot on NHL ice
