Likely out of our price range

Probably, although it may not hurt to attempt to negotiate a little more...

Well, he wants a mixture of 1sts and good prospects. Neither of which we currently have (I acquired the team when it was 0 prospects and 2-3 2018 picks and only a couple 2019 picks)

True, so acquiring one of the defensemen from Arizona seems out of the question. Toronto's probably our best hope for an upgrade.

honestly I'm not sure we really need an upgrade at 2LD... we just need a placeholder there until Walman or Kulak can play that position

Doesn't hurt to ask around though

I don't know about Walman, but personally I don't think that Kulak will be able to develop into a 2LD, especially because he's stuck behind a fairly deep defense in Calgary (IRL).

Kulak was playing 2LD minutes when Hamonic was out. So he could likely fill that role. And Walman could be interesting as he is stuck behind Dunn and Edmundson and Bouw in St.Louis, but is on their AHL Top Line, that begs to see him play some NHL minutes

Are we looking for top-6 wingers, or are you just probing around?

Just probing. We are going to skip on Riley Nash. But likely are still in on Spooner... ask is 2x 2019 2nd but that's high so I'm trying to figure something else out... he averages 40ish points a season so I'm not sure what that costs

Willy Karlsson is a 1st +... might potentially be able to get away with Good Prospect + 2x 2nd + Bouwmeester... not sure though

We could try JAD and a 2019 3rd, if that doesn't work, we could bump it up to a second...

He'd be a great add, but I don't know if we'd be able to grab him at that price.
We should wait for the reply on Reilly Smith, IMO.

Gardiner isn't worth his ask... he can be decent but chokes in high pressure situations

I think JAD is a golden prospect... not sure if I'd do JAD straight for Spooner

Then we should try to use JAD to get Smith/Karlsson, if the price is right...

So that's out of the question, now we should push a bit more on Karlsson

Here's what I'm thinking if we really wanted to get Karlsson:
JAD+Andersson for Karlsson and a low pick
I personally think it could be worth it, but what do you think?

Only thing is he has had a career year. And trading 2 A level prospects for him draws a couple red flags. This year could just be a fluke, he will regress by at least 10-15 points, his contract is going to be big ish. I think in the 5 or 6M range for a long while.

I'm not looking to move Lias at all. I think he will be a pretty strong forward in the future

He has a lot of potential, but I don’t see Andersson developing past a high-scoring 2C...
