Canucks Retool In One Offseason

Created by: Nucks33
Team: 2016-17 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2016
Published: Mar. 1, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Key here is Benning must find a way to get Edler and Burrows to Waive their NTC in the offseason and move them prior to July 1 / UFA season. If so, the Nucks can retool very quickly and sort out the mess that's been created. With this lineup they are a playoff team and can inject youth the way they want to, ie retool on the fly. Edler plus a pick is reasonable for Hamonic (although Snow may want Tanev in return, if so perhaps up the pick). Burrows is more of a cap flexibility move than anything, so the return is less important. This also assumes our top 10 pick stays in junior and ignores the potential addition of a guy like Tryamakin. Matt Martin and Lucic add a great deal of size, grit, and intimidation to the lineup. The fourth line of Martin/Gaunce/Dorsett would enable this team to truly roll four lines.

    1. No chance - he's making 4.5 right now and NO ONE wanted him for the playoffs? So how is he going to get 5? Common sense

    2. He's already said he'd take a discount to stay in Vancouver - which may be why some teams got gun shy to give up assets (ie maybe if they wanted him, they wanted to re-sign). He said throughout the trade process he would do a Vermette and would approach his contract the same way he did last time (ie home town discount).

    3. Average of 3.25 for 4 years (extra year makes up for less pay, Nucks probably would only want him for three max). 4.25 / 3.9 / 3 / 2 - Plus they still have 3 mil in cap room if they need to up it to more like AAV of 3.75 or so
