Trade down!

Description
I think the habs would be way better off trading down in the draft this year. Yes they can just take zadina and be happy with a top 6 player next year, however his draft is so deep they could trade down and still get a good player.

Trade down with the goal of drafting wahlstrom. If wahlstrom is taken you still have Bouchard, Hughes, Boqvist, and even Tkatchuk to select from.

Getting wahlstrom at 6 would be a steal, especially when you include vegas's 1st round pick.

I included Tavares with this team just because the habs are gonna go all in for him. If bergevin is trading down for a player that won't be in the NHL next year he needs to do something to save himself for the short term.

Yeah sorry should've clarified, I mean the top 10 is deep haha that's why trading down for the 6th is worth it still. It's not like a typical draft where there is a clear top 3 players and the rest is iffy. I feel this year there are 5-8 really solid prospects and aside from Dahlin none of then really stand out from the rest.

I like the idea of going down... The habs don't need more winger prospects that much anyway. I would take Bouchard or Boqvist before Wahlstrom, but that's just like, my opinion, man...

However, I wouldn't re-sign De La Rose, McCarron nor L. Shaw to one way contracts, even for that salary... Their taking up starting line up spots that can be filled with prospects (Evans, Bitten, Vejdemo, etc...)

Valiev is going to the KHL, so that resign isn't happening (proof: https: // awinninghabit. com /2018/04/30/montreal-canadiens-news-rinat-valiev-going-khl/) <--erase the spaces in the url

Otherwise, salary cap won't go past 78M$ next year, so Danault and/or others would need a lesser salary. However, let's all hope the habs bring out the welcome show for Tavares and that he doesn't take the easy way to the bank (aka signing with NYI).

Not true. Habs are still taking to Valiev about staying (https://www.tsn.ca/agent-no-khl-decision-for-valiev-soshnikov-1.1080277) but, regardless, we're debating the fate of a low-end roster piece. He's not the second-coming of Fetisov.

I'm indifferent to Logan Shaw and McCarron (though I think he has value if he's converted to a winger who stays in the high slot), but you're wrong about JDLR. He is a very solid player who does a lot of things right every game. He is a young Eller with (so far) less offensive instincts but better Dzone coverage. Eller had 17 points and was -4 in his season as a 22-year-old; JDLR had 12 points and was -3 on a desperately weaker team. Eller jumped to 28 and 30 the next two season. I expect JDLR to do exactly the same, especially if Plekanec is not re-signed.

A note on the draft, the scouts aren't saying the players after 10 are crap; they're saying it's a crapshoot. In that way, it's a lot like 2007, which was painful to predict. Here's are two mock drafts from 2007 (https://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/columnist/woodlief/2007-06-20-mock-draft_N.htm and http://www.espn.com/nhl/news/story?id=2791312). McDonagh was all over the map, as was Pacioretty. And Subban was nowhere to be seen. Drafts like these are where scouts earn their money because they need to spend a lot of time watching a ton of kids.

I like the Calgary trade... with Brodie value, not sure they will want to retain on Brouwer if you don't retains on Shaw or Schlemko.
In regards of Detroit... I would add a MID-6 NHL Forward + 3OA for their 6OA + NHL Top 6 player: Maybe AA + 6OA for 3OA + Carr or JDL or McCarron.
    Did something similare with ARZ:

Agreed. I thought DLR was really impressive after the habs traded plekanec and gave him more of a shot. DLR shows flashes of offensive potential, but he is big, fast, and defensively responsible. At worst he is a solid bottom 6 C.

Might as well resign all of their other RFA's there is no reason not to, I wish Cap Friendly had a Two-Way contract option.

Where did you see the salary cap will only go to $78M, do you have a link? Last I seen it was said it would be $78M to $82M so I just pick the middle.

I dont think you can get Danault for less than my offer, it's already a good deal for the habs. 3rd Line C's that score about 40 pts a year are usually worth at least $4M/year.

Danault is 25 and mired in the dreaded 30-point zone. He had the one good year with Radulov and Pacioretty, but he is not an offensive driver. By comparison, at the same age, Pleks had seasons of 47 and 69 points. Habs will give him 3x$3M or so and worry about his UFA potential then.

Danault was on pace for 39 pts, but he got hurt. He is a 30-40 point center and the price for that is about $3.5M. Lars eller just had a career 38 point season and signed an extension for $3.5M, he hasn't topped 30 pts in the past 4 years as well.

Danault is worth $3.5M, any less would be a discount.
