Tryin' with Ryan (Sens and Kings)

Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 10, 2018
Published: May 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The question here is how desperate is Ottawa to get Ryan off its cap? This assumes a lot. Byron (Ottawa hometown) would be a reasonable swap for Pageau, so would the Sens take Schlemko for Ryan, saving about $20M over 3 years?

Kings trade is fair. Carter is a spare asset for them having missed most of the season. Kempe has a lot of upside (I prefer Vilardi, but have been convinced that Kempe is of equal value) and Anderson-Dolan is an interesting prospect. Galchenyuk give the Kings a very solid player now and, presumably, Zadina or Svechnikov gives them an excellent player for the future.

In terms of cap management, the Habs will have to move one major piece next summer, either by allowing Pacioretty to leave via UFA, or buying our Alzner.

L.A. trade=
Carter> Chucky
Kempe +Anderson-Dolan = 3OA
I would tweak it that way: Carter + Anderson-Dolan (They would need Kempe to step in Carter seats)
for Chucky + Lekhonen + 2x2nd

Slammin' week, brother. I like Ryan, especially how he played in the playoffs. And, if it doesn't work, shave $3.5M of cap and trade him to a contender at the deadline.

Well, if Kempe is slotting in for Carter, then Vilardi becomes a question. I have no issues trading Lehkonen or Pacioretty in this if the return includes Vilardi.

Thanks, brother. My thinking exactly on a deadline trade. The guy has had some bad luck with stupid injuries. But playing in Ottawa is also depressing. If Montreal isn't a great fit, at some point, Philly or NJ would love to have the hometown kid back for a playoff run.

I like the sens trade, I used to watch Pageau play when he was captain in Gatineau. I'm not sold on Bobby Ryan, but am willing to give it a shot with that price of a trade haha.

From a neutral point, the LA trade looks pretty good. Galchenyuk will hopefully find a new home where he can really spread his wings, and breakout as the player he always was. MTL gets a center prospect, a young rising LW and and older but respected 1C. I dislike having our 3rd OVA in the mix. Value wise it works, but for me it's tapping a nerve. That's just my opinion. Otherwise, another great writeup.

Thanks, Chill. Appreciate the feedback. I don't have a good enough read on Zadina and I just know that Montreal would ruin Svechnikov (as it does most young Russians). Unless we're in love with the pick, this is "certainty" and helps right the ship and, as you point out, frees Chucky from his misery.

This is horrible but MB is so desperate it might happen. The Ottawa trade is just awful for us we could get so much more for Byron and nobody will ever take on that horrendous Bobby Ryan contract.
