Replying to Gaudreau to TB (CGY side)

Created by: Tkachinla
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 20, 2018
Published: May 22, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Brodie for Miller straight up. Given other 1-for-1 comparables of D for F, CGY is over-paying slightly on this piece.

The rest is rounded out with Gaudreau + 2020 3rd for Point + 2019 1st.

CGY approves to get a right-shot younger asset with proven track record, plus an ultra-late 1st rounder next year.

------------------------------

Looking at the lines after the deal is done (and assuming Valimaki is ready for a 2nd or 3rd pairing role next year, plus Cole signing to fill on the other LD spot), CGY gets better from this deal.

You have fallen into the trap that I call the "one season trap" with Point. Plus Gaudreaus value is way higher.

I'd be very happy to take that bet that Point is around for the long-term. And very, very successfully.

I believe it too but I still don’t believe he is worth the same as Gaudreau in terms of salary and player quality. The way I look at it you are trading the best player on the flames, and a great #3 defensemen for Point who could take over(key word “could”) and Miller. But essentially you are opening 2 holes and partially filling 1 of them.
