All three of these deals dont make sense from the Flames perspective. Gallagher and Shaw are not scoring help. Gallagher alone isnt worth a 1st, let alone Brodie and Bennett tagged on. Shaw is pretty much worthless. Dzingel is probably worth a 5th round pick, so trading 3 good prospects which all together would fetch a 1st makes no sense. Orpik is overpaid, slow and just plain bad. You are better off holding onto Stone vs paying a bad defensemen 5.5M per.

Replying to Gaudreau to TB (CGY side)

I believe it too but I still don’t believe he is worth the same as Gaudreau in terms of salary and player quality. The way I look at it you are trading the best player on the flames, and a great #3 defensemen for Point who could take over(key word “could”) and Miller. But essentially you are opening 2 holes and partially filling 1 of them.

Dougie Hamilton to the Wings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMhockey99</b></div><div>Wings need a number one defensemen. To me this is really Mantha and Cholowski for Hamilton. Svechnikov is young but hasn't looked great. Daley hasn't impressed me at all and would like to get rid of him. Mantha is ok but I'm not in love with the guy. He is definitely tradable. The wild card is Cholowski. But at the end of the day this looks pretty fair to me.</div></div>
The Flames arent in a position for this trade. Calgary is a position where they can make the playoffs, this just hurts them in more ways than one.

You have fallen into the trap that I call the "one season trap" with Point. Plus Gaudreaus value is way higher.

PHI / NYR / TOR / CAR
The Canes deal is a real head scratcher. Dont really need another center, especially at that price. Fox + Bennett would fetch you a much better player than Jordan Staal.

OTT / MON / PIT
I dont see the Montreal or Pittsburgh deals happening from a Flames perspective. Just because Calgary has young defensemen doesn't mean they should trade them away. If anything, Stone is gone this summer and Andersson takes his spot as the 3rd pairing RD.

JT and Hamilton
Dougie Hamilton isnt going anywhere. Instead of signing Tavares, the Sabres should go out and look for some wingers. Eichel, ROR and Mittelstad give you options down the middle by being able to play all 3 down the middle or Mittlestad on the wing. If you go with the second option you have a top six with O'Reilly, Eichel, Mittelstad, Nylander and Reinhart. Thats a pretty good top 6. On D, the top pairing is pretty much set in stone. Dahlin and Risto. The Sabres struggle with depth. The only decent guy is Rodrigues. On D, I like Guhle as the 3rd LD, but Im not completely sold on Bogosian, and Scandella. If the GM can fill out the roster properly, there may be a chance for sabres.

It doesnt mean that they are just gonna trade players for scraps.

Carolina trade
Carolina is getting screwed here. The only two viable good assets they are getting are the pick and Jones. Pesce is a 23 year old right shot d on a great contract, no way the Oilers are getting him and Skinner in this deal.

Oil Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vinnylou</b></div><div>They're going to have to move someone this year bc the next 2 years, theyre going to have one hell of a time trying to sign everyone. I'd trade the 10th and something else prospect wise for trouba.</div></div>
Trouba will take Enstroms cap space that will be opened up and most of their core is under contract. Hellebuyck and Trouba are the two big contracts for next season, the year after its Laine, Wheeler and Connor. Myers will come off the books/take a pay cut, Mason will be gone, Enstrom will be off the books/taking a pay cut. The only guys I see making over 6M are Laine and Wheeler. Plus they have a great prospect pool with guys like Petan, Lemieux, Stanley, and Comrie. You also have to remember that if the cap goes up to 80M this offseason it could be at 84M next offseason which means theres and extra 9M to play with for teams. That could cover Trouba and Hellebuyck.

One big trade
You do understand that Calgary is closer to the playoffs. These trades basically chop off an arm and a leg for them. Why in the world would they trade Hamilton(who is their best defenseman), Backlund, and Brodie just to fill their top six up front. Especially when they would be taking on the cap hits of Ryan, Stone, and Andersson. All this does is open up new holes on the blue line, which Rasmus Andersson and Oliver Kylington arent ready to fill yet.

Oil Moves
Jets dont need a top 6 dman, so thats not happening. Lucic for Krejci will never happen because Lucic is Lucic. If the Oilers want Faulk, they are going to have to give up more than that. The Oilers are the ones looking for a Dman and so the team they trade with, will be the ones dictating price unless they get something they need in return. They wouldnt take a defensemen because of the fact that their blue line is already loaded up so it would have to be a forward, pick and something else for Faulk. If the Oilers make the playoffs next year, the late first round pick may not have the value the canes are looking for, you also have to remember the canes werent that far off from a playoff spot this year and with the right moves(and goaltending) could get in.
