Ready to contend

Created by: PenGoater99
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2018
Published: May 22, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trades:

SJ: Cap dump

CAR: Pesce is on the market, send Gardiner in return who only has one year remaining.

EDM: Klefbom has been shopped around. Send a high pick with Zaitsev to help with a retool.

ANA: Ducks have a surplus of d-men, get one of those, and send future considerations.

VAN: Tanev is a good hard checking veteran penalty killing d-man, send some prospects in return for the future of the Canucks.

Now the Leafs have a top 7-10 d-core which help them contend for a cup. If they don't win, they have the assets for a retool to regain some picks and prospects

Tanev, Klefbom and Pesce will definitely cost more.

Gardiner is as good as, if not better than Pesce.

Vancouver is getting two very good prospects plus a pick

Klefbom and Zaitsev are basically the same player, and there's a 2nd that was thrown in to sweeten the deal

Also we don’t need both Derek Ryan and Nash pick 1 to run the third line

The leafs need a retool on defense, one guy only won't help that, and the leafs are now contenders, they can't worry about keeping picks, also I only traded 4 picks

Yes they have to worry, how has Pittsburg been good for so long? Because they didn’t give up picks and I think 1 defencemen can make a difference.

Neither of them are 100% NHL ready and they don't make the NHL team stronger, the Leafs have a window before cap hell comes in and they need to win, they might as well use the resources they have

Pittsburgh kept picks because they are bottom feeders, the Leafs are contenders and once again I'll say that I only gave up FOUR WHOLE PICKS. ANd why should they settle for only one d-man when there are plenty available on the market?????

PensGoater99 I hope you realize that adding top 4 defensemen in the NHL is probably one of the hardest things to do, given that they take so long to develop and are unpredictable, so why in gods name would Vancouver, Anahiem, Carolina and Edmonton giveup 4 of these types of players for every single scrub the Leafs have to offer, sprinkled in with B level prospects and a couple of 1st/2nd picks. It not a trade worth making for any of these teams, especially Edmonton and Vancouver. Holy **** this is so bad

I made this based off of rumors from this season and now the offseason, nothing serious. The prospects that I have included are not "B" level prospects, they're more like A- level. I chose each player because it makes sense for both sides. For the Canes: They say that everyone aside from Aho is available, why not go after a guy that is still relatively young and is under team control for many years at a good cap hit, send them a more mobile OFD who is on the last year of his contract, if they're good, keep him, if not, trade for a massive haul at the deadline. For the Oilers: Klefbom has been rumored around in many cities, the Leafs need a better DFD type player, and in return send a TWD who's in a similar situation with term left along with a 2nd to make the deal worth it. For the Ducks: We all know that they have a massive surplus on defense. The Leafs get another DFD who can play on the PK and in return, send Hainsey for the roster spot, and also send Rosen who is playing great in the AHL and Timashov who will be a great quick sniper in the future, and also, a the 25th overall pick where the Ducks can get another future d-man in Jett Woo. For the Canucks: the Leafs have been looking at him for a while now. Send Bracco who is a point per game in the AHL to help with that young core that Vancouver seems to be building, with that, Josh Leivo who can turn into a good third liner and can be a net-front presence and also play on the PK, with that, Connor Carrick who similarly to Leivo isn't getting the playtime in Toronto, but can still be a formidable top 4 player, and not to mention, he's very quick and has a great shot.

So I don't know why you feel you have to trash everything, this was just a thought, not an expectation.

I wouldn't "trash" something if it made sense, and I realize most posts have a very slim chance of actually happening and aren't the "expectation", only real issue I have with your post is that you undervalued a position that if anything is overvalued in NHL today, you also happen to do it four times. I don't mind the thought, because its fair, these players are available and the leafs need defence so it makes sense. I just feel that the value is wayyyy off and that you seem to really overvalue the players/prospects from the Leafs in the trade. This is something that you can choose to agree with or disagree with and whatever you choose to do is fine. If you think I was overly harsh than sorry, but I don't think I was doing anything more that suggesting you've grossly disvalued the parts of the trade

I think the rift apart is the valuation of the prospects that I have decided to trade. I don't know about you but, I truly think that guys like Rosen, Timashov, Bracco, Carrick still carry good amounts of value and that they could come to good use at some point for the teams that are getting them. They are very good trade chips for the Leafs and like I've done here, they could make up some value in the trades that I proposed
