I wouldn't mind the Leafs taking a flyer on Tanev, but I think you are asking far too much for a player that averaged 45 games/yr. over the last two years due to injuries! If Vancouver believes they are in a rebuild, Tanev likely is not a part of their future.

Another Tanev to Leafs trade? If Tanev had any trade value, I would hope he could be traded to another team. Don't see the Leafs trading a likely starting Dman in Borgman and 1st rounder for two years of a notorious part time player. Plus the Leafs might need that 4.4m to use in free agency in 2019 when other Dmen are available..
