NJD trade for Kessel pt.2

Description
In part 1 I think I overvalued the value of "cap dumping" Letang for Severson. I still think they want to move on from Letang and his huge contract. This time Vatanen goes the other way a big upgrade over Severson. Also included: the cap dump of Hagelin's contract (negative value). Pit will receive top 6 forward Johanson (with retained salary). Additionally the 2019 1st rounder will be sent Pittsburgh's way. Why would they want this I hear you ask? It's a good trade piece they can use next year in negotiations with other teams. Pit can take Kinkaid instead of the 1st rounder if they want (trust me he's a great goaltender). If you don't quite get the idea with the trade, go read part 1.

They just said that they would not be trading Kessel so why even try?

That and I dont see why the Pens would send Kessel AND Letang to a divisional rival.

Where did they say that? He's been in ALL of the trade rumors.

That's different though. Bergevin and Rutherford are 2 WAYYYYYY different people

I mean Rutherford is not going to say "We are looking to trade Kessel". Rutherford simply said "I don't feel like we HAVE to trade Kessel". Which is actually more neutral than saying "I will not trade Kessel".

If NJD wants Kessel, then I say Hall for Kessel. Yes, overpayment for Kessel, but sending him to a division rival dictates an overpayment. Letang won’t be moved unless the return is very substantial as well.... as in Vatanen & Severson.
I know the trades won’t make sense from a NJD perspective, but pit is win now. And winning now means either a lateral move that gets a player(s) that will fit better into the system, trading for an area of need, getting more than the player(s) are worth, or dumping salary. Letang & Kessel are not cap dumps.
