1) Montreal Trade: Galchenyuk is the right age to join the Flames' core, and would slot in as the second line center or winger, depending on how the team wanted to use him. He wouldn't be called upon to play as a 1C or top winger, and would give the Flames top six flexibility. The cost, Brodie and a fourth, fits as Brodie is a left hand shot that can play both left and right sides, is under 30 and has similar term and cost left on his contract. He brings a puck moving element to Montreal. The pick is another lottery ticket. Lazar is thrown in as the Flames will most likely be waiving him, and this gives Montreal first crack at him. If they want him, great, if not, they can waive him after camp. He is not necessarily part of the cost.
2) Minnesota Trade: The Athletic has Niederreiter as on the trade block, and the Wild have two major needs: defensive depth and defensive prospects. This fills both of those holes. Stone is an under 30 defenseman who fits in the 5 role and can play in the top four when necessary, with a booming slapshot. He is more expensive than most 5th D, and so the Flames would retain some salary. Kylington is 21 year old defenseman with 3 (!!) years in the AHL, a lot of experience for such a young player. He is pushing the Flames for a roster spot, and the Flames need to find him a spot or move someone out. This does that. Moving Niederreiter for those two pieces, however, creates another hole. Ferland fills that. He is a top six scorer, although not at the level of Niederreiter. Essentially, the Flames fill their major need, and so does Minnesota, while clearly having a high cost for the Flames.
3) Brouwer buy-out: This is not about cap space, but about roster space. By adding Galchenyuk and Niederreiter, as well as the development of Dube and Mangiapane, means there needs to be some roster space freed up. Between Flames Nation and the Athletic, it is clear young players are pushing their way onto the team, and the best player needs to play. Foo and Shore would share press box duty, based on whether Galchenyuk was on the wing or at center. At 23, Foo is the player he is, and giving him development time in the AHL isn't going to help significantly, but he will provide more than Brouwer will.
I wouldn't do the first trade. Chucky is a great player but not the player we should be looking for, if Brodie is going to Montreal it's for Gallagher. The second trade however is nice.

Then we should look elsewhere. It's not worth overpaying, but I don't want to give up Brodie for another left handed winger. Even if the value is there, it just doesn't fix our need.

The issue is right shot wingers are really hard to find that fit in terms of ability and flexibility and age. He fits boxes better than the free agents. Niederreiter is a great fit, but after him, more talent is more important, and he cna bring that. If you have a suggestion, please, but keeping Brodie is less of a fit than adding Galchenyuk.

Kyle Palmieri, Wayne Simmonds, Sam Reinhart, Tyler Johnson and Elias Lindholm are other right handed forwards I'm interested in trading Brodie for.

Ferland for Niederrater is a saw-off. Why in the world would you throw-in Kylington and Stone for nothing? NOT a good idea.
