Description

Pittsburgh needs cap room and would like to unload Hunwick. The Jackets trade a late 3rd rounder to acquire Rust and take Hunwick. Hunwick would give the Jackets some insurance for Werenski who will likely be out the first month or so of the season. Rust gives the Jackets more depth.

Penguins would be incredibly stupid to trade Rust just to dump Hunwicks salary. They lack LW depth as it is so why would they give up a LW n not get any kind of return.

The Pens need cap room. They would be at risk to lose Rust for peanuts if they don’t make a shrewd move. But Sheary is overpaid and no one will take that contract.
