Tavares is coming to visit... here's Benning's sales pitch

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2018-19 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 13, 2018
Published: Jun. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No way JT signs with a rebuilding team on the west coast unless there's a chance they can become competitive right away. So Benning does the heavy lifting before the draft;

For a huge package of futures (and sending a bad contract back to the Sens) the Canucks get a signed Erik Karlsson for 8 years. Still having the cap room, Benning sells JT on playing with young stars like Boeser and Pettersson, and working the PP with EK for the rest of his career.

I dont know if I see Karlsson doing a sign and trade but the value looks about right, maybe could keep 1 of Lind, Gadjovich, or DiPietro

I like where you are going with this. I think a little more tweaks and a couple more trades to dump some more cap. Also I don't think that Markstrom is the goalie for a team wanting to be competitive. might need to look for an upgrade or bring in a veteran like Halak, Cam Ward, or J. Bernier to mentor Demko and then this team will be more competitive.

honestly i think Demko is gunna be ready for a starting role next season (19-20) anyways, and with that Karlsson trade Vancouver is gunna be low on assets, so i think Markstrome can do for now. but if it is a FA it wouldnt be a bad idea

the only thing is that i think Juolevi is going to play in the NHL this season, so signing Hamhuis wouldnt work out, unless you traded Del Zotto

I thought Juolevi would push for a spot out of camp too, but his surgery is going to cut into very valuable training time. Both Hamhuis and MDZ have expiring contracts at year's end, so if Juolevi got called up mid-season and pushed one of them to the press box it wouldn't be a big deal.

i saw reports saying he will be ready for training camp, and will still have a good shot at making the opening night roster

I just created a team that is very much in dream land but I think it could work. Would like to hear your feedback.
