I'd rather depth overkill than a complete lack of it, like last season. You are absolutely right about Backlund and Tkachuk, which is why they both factor in on both the PP and PK. The idea being to give them that extra ice time on special teams. Essentially, Backlund's line would get the heavy going, with as few offensive zone starts as possible, and whichever is most rested out of the top two lines gets the higher ground - aiming for about 60-65 offensive zone starts each. If, like last season, Backlund's line are snake bitten in terms of shooting percentage, they are still highly valuable, and if they can rebound, they just add value. There is no reason to play any line more than 20 minutes a night, and so having three lines that can each play 17-18 minutes, leaving 9-10 to the fourth line, would be ideal. Have Mangiapane and Foo rotate down to Stockton occasionally to get them more ice time, and rotate in AHLers who need a tryout.
