Flames w OTT, MON, TB, Kovalchuk

Created by: KH44
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2018
Published: Jun. 14, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This was fun.
1) Ottawa gets the 2019 1st they want, two young, cheap NHL players, an NHL ready prospect that should make the team and two additional prospects, capitalizing on the chaos of Ottawa for the Flames, but making sure Ottawa gets something in return Ownership can justify. Sorry, Ottawa fans.
2) Montreal gets the Left hand D man they want, one who has very successfully partnered with a great right handed defence man. Flames get another scoring winger adding to the top six. Lazar is going to be waived, so maybe he finds a spot in Montreal, maybe not.
3) Flames sign Kovalchuk. While the Flames were not on his radar before the moves, now suddenly the Flames have a lot more depth and a shot at winning.
4) Stone to Tampa Bay - Stone is blocking Andersson, and the Flames need to get their young guys into the NHL. Moving Stone, an experienced 28 year old right shot defender with a bomb, is better option than moving Hamilton or Hamonic. TB needs a RH D, and gives up a couple fourths to fill the slot for the next two years.
5) 3.5 million in cap space means the chance to add a good player at the deadline.
6) Next year, Duchene walks or re-signs, Tkachuk gets a big raise, and the Flames are in a bit of a crunch, but not an unmanageable one. If the cap goes up again, even by a couple million, they are in good shape, and someone like Frolik could be moved as well.

i think its really over kill to have all 4 of those stud pick ups. Backlund and Tkachuk are 2nd liners for sure and would want that ice time

I'd rather depth overkill than a complete lack of it, like last season. You are absolutely right about Backlund and Tkachuk, which is why they both factor in on both the PP and PK. The idea being to give them that extra ice time on special teams. Essentially, Backlund's line would get the heavy going, with as few offensive zone starts as possible, and whichever is most rested out of the top two lines gets the higher ground - aiming for about 60-65 offensive zone starts each. If, like last season, Backlund's line are snake bitten in terms of shooting percentage, they are still highly valuable, and if they can rebound, they just add value. There is no reason to play any line more than 20 minutes a night, and so having three lines that can each play 17-18 minutes, leaving 9-10 to the fourth line, would be ideal. Have Mangiapane and Foo rotate down to Stockton occasionally to get them more ice time, and rotate in AHLers who need a tryout.

Okay, so you are saying the Flames would want Raddysh instead of the draft picks? Or in addition to the draft picks? Based on what? Why do they want him, and would he be available for Stone? Because the goal of the Stone trade is to clear out 3.5 million in cap space and open a roster spot, and TB needs a right handed D man.

Calgary needs a RW that shoots right preferably big.
Tampa needs a RD that shoots right.
I don't care who that RD is or what pieces have to be added to make the deal work.
