Don’t think Carolina would want another player in an expiring deal back. I think part of the reason they may trade Skinner is because of having to pay him as he is 1 year away from UFA, and Simmonds is in the same boat.

Canes organization has already stated the price for Skinner is a 1st round pick and a prospect. As @HockeyNM1510 stated there’s no reason for Carolina to bring in another near expiring player, not to mention they’re similar in talent and I think Hurricanes want to completely open that wing spot.

I agree cane's would not want this deal, (even if Simmons was extended)

I don't agree that Simmons and Skinner are about equal in talent though

Stats wise they are close to the same (Simmons has had some amazing seasons) But.........

Skinner is 3 years younger, and is faster (which gets more important every year)

Simmons will be 30 when is contract is up (and although he is still playing at a high level) players that play as physically as he does don't tend to endure well as they get into their 30s (that's just the facts)

Skinner is way more valuable today

Simmonds brings a lot to the table that skinner doesn’t. I think the things you listed put Skinner and Simmer as equals because if they were the same age Simmonds would be more valuable.
