In a realistic world there is no way the oilers feel the need to pick up the Shaw contract, we're better off just using Khaira at center... especially if the alternative is having him in the top 6. He brings alot to the table but isnt a top 6 guy.

I agree with what you are saying. However we need a solid RHD. Larsson is the only proven RHD in our system. In order to have a complete d core we need to get a better RHD that can play in the NHL. The only way we can afford Sustr is by chopping some cap. A way we can do that is by trading Sekera for Shaw. We shed 1,600,000 in cap space and we acquire a 2nd round pick for our 3rd at the same time. This saves us cap space and gives us a better pick to improve our prospect pool long term. Khaira is not a top 6 guy but either is Puljujarvi at his current state. The reason I think Shaw is a good addition is that we can bump him anywhere Centre or RW in the bottom 6 at our discretion. If we keep Sekera we have 4 LHD and 2 RHD, aside from that we pay more money and still need a RW or C. TO add to this Shaw is a much better face-off man than Khaira averaging 54.5% in the circle in his last 2 seasons.

Makes sense, don't know if that'll happen. But it would be nice to see. The trade seems fair for both teams and the signings are reasonable as well. Thanks for your input!
