I don't think Montreal would be against it in principle, but Spooner doesn't help the Habs and we already have four second rounders. Brady Skjei on the other hand...

For the weakest team down the middle, a serviceable center would help you guys plenty. Especially since most projections have the Habs targeting Kotkaniemi as a reach (because of the need), who'd likely be there at 9 anyway.

I got the idea from a Habs fan site. I thought they were undervaluing the trade, so I added a second on it.

DeAngelo is better than Staal, Pateryn, Pionk and Gilmour

      Disagree on both counts.

Pateryn is a younger, healthier Girardi that plays physical (155 hits) and blocks shots (148 bs). That's exactly what NY needs to shore up their defense.

DeAngelo was an experiment. He's got a bad attitude and work ethic, and is way worse than any of those guys in his own end. Unless he's made massive improvements in the offseason, he's a 7th defender on any team at best.

      EDIT:
I'm not the only one that thinks so either. This guy has Pateryn at $3.0m and wants to ship off DeAngelo.

Man, have you seen Staal play? He can't skate anymore!
And I've watched a lot of games when Pateryn was with MTL. The guy is horrible. He can hit, but that's basically it...

But I think we can all agree that our defense is going to be bad, in 18-19...

Pateryn played top 4 minutes with Dallas all season last year, and he's improved dramatically since MTL. I wouldn't give him a Brendan Smith deal, but I think Pateryn could help us out.

Staal isn't a great player in transition, but he's defensively responsible at least. His Corsi is garbo, but his deployment was 63% D-Zone starts last year and he's been on the right side of +/- for 4 consecutive seasons, including +11 last year on a team that had the 8th worst record. I'm not saying he's an all-star or that he's worth that contract, but he's a far better option than Tony DeAngelo!
