Barrett Hayton was projected to go T15. Chayka, instead of trading this pick to NYR, who reportedly was happy to do business with him, took Hayton at 5, a mistake on many levels. A top 5 spot is pressure. Combine that pressur with a Top 15 player, you get a bust. Chayka should have traded 5 for 9 and 26. NYR could’ve gotten a ready player in Zadina, while Chayka could’ve gotten Hayton without getting ripped. Hayton does not fall to 24. Thank you

Even so, should not have been a first-round pick. The Knights games I saw both before and after the trade, he didn't stand out at all in his shifts. Maybe I tuned in on "off" nights but that kind of inconsistency should not be taken in the first round. Anyone going in the first round should be getting noticed and making a difference even if it's not on the score sheet.

Hayton is a good defensive forward, and played on a stacked Soo Sault St. Marie team. He could have gone point per game if he played with their better players. While I still wouldn't take him over Zadina, especially when the Coyotes are already stacked on centers
