If They Get Tavares Yr 2 (The Hard Part)

Description
After keeping most of the group together for one year, it's time to cut some salary in year two. Montreal has the cap space to take on both Johnson and Killorn, and both can be effective additions for them. Trading them and letting Girardi walk opens the cash to re-sign Kucherov long term, bridge Point and Gourde, and give modest extensions to McDonagh and Stralman. I left a $4M buffer as protection in case some of the extensions need to be for more money.

There will still be cap concerns moving forward, particularly in two years when Point's bridge deal is up, but at that time, Palat and Miller should be easily movable assets.

Wishful thinking on the Stralman, McDonagh, and Point deals. I think Stralman walks, McD takes some of that salary, Point takes some more. Remainder you find a D on the market.

I left an extra $4M in space to allow for a bit higher numbers on those deals. On the Point one specifically, I think they really try to sell him on a bridge deal because that will keep the Cup window open for another few years. If he wants a long term deal at $7M-$8M per, it's probably not in Tampa.
