According to Bergevin press conference

Description
Having acquired no one to take over the top 6 Center via trade or UFA, Drouin most likely slots back as MTLs #1 C...even after Bergefail has already stated that he should be on the wing. Put him with Byron and Gallagher as they had a decent amount of chemistry going at the end of last season. Danault goes back to being #2 C with Patches (who at least he has chemistry with) and I'm giving Armia a chance in the top 6 to start the season.

Bergefail thinks he's found another Byron type player in Matthew Peca (whose a natural center). Although this deal seems a bit odd, I'll give Bergefail the benefit of the doubt on this occasion as this is something that he's actually shown to be good at finding. Since Peca is offensive minded, I'm giving him every chance to succeed by putting him with Domi and Scherbak. Plekanec takes again the shutdown line, merging him back with Lehkonen and Hudon (whom they all played very well together for a short period last year).

The negative (or positive depending on your point of view) is that both "top lines" are legit 2nd lines, and both "bottom lines" and legit 3rd lines, with the team having no 1st line or 4th line.

One thing is for sure, this is definitely not a playoff team.

we need to look for other bad contracts a la Lucic.

Useless to keep 13 millions unused.

realistically If MTL doesn't make any more changes, they'll have roughly $10mil in cap space. In the lineup I've suggested, Shaw is on LTIR.

I'm all for taking on bad contracts, but Bergevin said he's not taking or giving long term deals to older players. If Habs were to take a bad contract, that contract would have to be 2-3 years tops. Lucic doesn't fit the bill.
