Changes Coming

Created by: Watty1
Team: 2016-17 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 9, 2016
Published: Apr. 9, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The return for Rask looks underwhelming at first, but Boston needs to cut salary from somewhere. Rask is great but isn't a top 5 NHL goalie and shedding his $7 million could be worth considering. Calgary won't trade their 1st rd pick for him, but their 2nd from Dallas could be of interest to Boston. Boston signs a stopgap while assessing their future in goal.

Doubt if Rask would ever waive his NMC to go to an out of the playoffs Western Conference. I like your idea of moving a big contract to help in other areas. Also wonder if many teams would be interested in sending the Bruins any assets back for a 29 year goalie on a long term 7 m a year deal. You might call me insane, but the most realistic deal to get rid of long term contracts is to put the player on waivers. No assets coming back, but no bad contracts either. Is this a way to get around NMCs? Gives a team to spend in Boston's case, 7m a year to spend elsewhere.
