Let's See How it Looks Now

Description
Everybody I read on CapFriendly seems to think re-signing Mark Jankowski is a priority. If he's so valuable, I don't understand the Derek Ryan signing. But if we assume that everyone is right, and given the cap room problem and crowding at the center position, then this trade seems to make sense. Am I getting enough for Backlund? (Hathaway, Klimchuk, Shinkaruk and Prout went to the minors. Dube, Valimaki and Kylington on their way up.) And is Troy Brouwer staying or going?

Nowhere near enough for Backlund, especially from a team starved for a Center.

Backlund is a core player in CGY, hence the contract that was given to him. He's not available.

Jankowski and Czarnik on very similar trajectories, I think that with the negotiation skill Treliving has you will see Janko come in around 1.3-1.5 for 3 years. I think that he will still get a chance to run that third line in a scoring role, and Derek Ryan will be a more defensively oriented C in the 4 spot. Janko is an important re signing because it was only his first year with the big club last year and he definitely proved worth of a roster spot going forward, if he can continue to progress the way that he is then I think as Backlund ages he moves to the 3rd line in a true shut down role and Janko will move up to the second in more of a traditional secondary scoring role.

Thanks! I appreciate the knowledgeable opinion and courteous feedback! (If you want to see why, look at what's happening to my joke "Trying to Get Back into the Jack Hughes Lottery" (Ottawa).)

Jankowski is going to get more than Czarnik because he's a C, I'm guessing 1.5/ 2 years. I could see Janko getting the 3rd line spot after a while, but there's a super good chance that Ryan starts in that spot. Janko is going to have to play his way into the top 9 again.

Thanks for the feedback! (But nobody's answering my question about Troy Brouwer!)

We try forget he exists. I think he stays one more season, hopefully Peters will put him in the press box a little more. Next year a buyout is much more palatable.

He's going to play in our bottom six this season again. I just hope that this time we bench him once in a while to wake him up. Next off-season we likely buy him out.
